There aren’t any colours more calming than sea colors — turquoise, aqua, Aegean and cobalt, to mention a couple. I am drawn to these colours in my own house and notice that I feel good when I wear these colours. Perhaps it is my astrological water sign which makes me feel at home surrounded by these soothing colors.
Freshening up a room with these colours doesn’t have to involve a major, costly transformation. It can be as simple as a pillow shift, new paint or a couple of fresh seats. Actually, some of my favorite applications of these colours are splashes here and there. Obviously, larger color applications seem great, too! Let’s dive in and revel in the cool sea shades.

Kitchen chairs are available in many entertaining shades of blue, such as this aqua set of Eames Molded Plastic Side Chairs.

Go Dutch and turquoise at the exact same time. A Dutch door is a great way to bring casual serene into a house. Channel the Caribbean on sunny, lazy days with a bright sea shade on the inside as well as the outside by painting both sides of the doorway and keeping it open.

Paint an old necklace a fresh color of blue. I can not help but think of a small wave pool when I see this bedroom. Even just the smallest quantities of blue in a bedroom are calming.
Consider a fresh shade of turquoise onto a kitchen backsplash. Turquoise is a great color for rustic designs like Spanish and Mediterranean. This sea hue blends nicely with different white and blues or stain-grade cabinets.

Go with large sea shade in overhead light. Just like a wave, this chandelier drenches the room in turquoise. I love that there is no other blue in the room aside from a small vase, making the chandelier stand out much more.

Cobalt is a fun and sophisticated color. The Same as the Great Blue Hole off the coast of Belize, cobalt creates instant mystery and drama. I love it here with the timber countertop on the staircase and the open shelves.

What a great idea: a surprise blast of turquoise on staircase. I would not mind walking up the staircase with this cool colour of deep turquoise to see as I go.

Aqua mixed with soft grey creates an excellent spa texture. The mild cabinets are the perfect choice with this shade. Try maple, walnut or rift-cut white oak with a clear coat to acquire this mild wood appearance.

Try out a palette. This mild color of turquoise is soft enough to use everywhere within this retro-inspired kitchen. My guess is that this kitchen is on the older side and has been freshened up with this great shade.
Hint: Turquoise seems great with citrus colors like chartreuse and yellow. To get a similar shade of turquoise to what’s shown here, try Turquoise Mist 695 from Benjamin Moore.
Aegean, a blue with glimmers of green, is just one of my favorite ocean colours. It looks great with all shades of blue and surprisingly crisp with crimson.

Don’t forget about drapes and chair fabric for waves of blue on your dining area. Ocean colours prove their versatility by looking great with conventional furniture as well as modern pieces.

To get a natural pairing, try various ocean colours with a sandy beige on the walls. My favorite sand color is Manchester Tan HC-168 by Benjamin Moore.
